I am giving up, it is probably bad motherboard. Would try going to control panel, searching for "power", and then looking at power management settings and making sure it makes sense... I've only plugged it in while the battery is in. I have also tried a Universal power adapter which I know works on other laptops, but nothing. Specifically what functions the power button provides? Could it be the power port on the laptap and if so, is there anyway I can fix that? I have another laptop. I've an HP laptop that wouldn't shut down since Windows 8 came out, talked w/hp, took to the tech place, no luck.
